I've been involved in some discussions about Poplar Bluff Middle School making the jump to 1:1 chromebooks. Pretty much everybody I visit with is very much in favor of getting us the devices to finish off our carts.

But how does 1:1 change our instruction? A chromebook can't be a $300 pencil. What I mean is, we can't make a worksheet into a googledoc and say we are using technology to create 21st century learners. Our technology should help us transform our teaching, not replace it.

The problem is that not everybody has a clear idea of what that kind of instruction looks like. Real, authentic, inquiry/project based learning that engages kids. I mean really engages kids, not just kids being compliant. What does that look like? How do we get teachers to make a commitment to that kind of instruction?

That kind of fundamental change in instruction can only come from comprehensive professional development. So the question becomes, are we committed enough to improving our instruction that we are willing to be trained in order to have 1:1 chromebooks.

Please answer this survey so I can gain an idea of our commitment level.

Most of you have heard of the SAMR model and how that relates to technology integration. Here is a great video on the SAMR model.
