SLO's
The SLO process seems to be a big deal and one that is just a little overwhelming. So, I thought we should try to break it down into small tasks. After all, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
Start a document and type the answers to the following questions:
1.) What learning objective am I going to use for this process? Is it an ELO? Why did I choose this standard (rationale)? How is it connected to my students' needs? How and why are the instructional strategies appropriate and rigorous?
2.) What information is being used to create this SLO and establish the amount of growth that should take place? What evidence do you have of what your students know and can do? What are your sources of data? Summarize their performance.
3.) Which students will be included in this SLO (subject, grade level, number of students)? Are there specific issues I should be aware of? How many IEP? ELL?
Some of these questions will require some collaboration with your PLC team and some of the will require collaboration with your pod. Your learning objectives and rationale are a PLC conversation. Your student population is pod specific (and could be different between classrooms depending on iep's). Don't stress about it, but start to have some conversations and get some thoughts on paper.
If you have questions or are unclear what I am asking for, send me a note. I would be glad to help in any way I can.
