Thank you all for completing the school climate survey for me. I know Dr. Jackson also sent one and between that and the SAPP you have been surveyed to death, but I appreciate your feedback. If you are interested in our survey data, I have it in a spreadsheet. You can access it here. We had 61 people complete the survey. There is a lot of good information for us as a building and the changes we need to make in order to improve.

Don't forget that we have a staff meeting this week. The agenda can be found here.

You may remember that I attend PLC meetings with all of the other principals and that we have been doing building walk throughs. Originally we had this scheduled for January 30, but that date has changed to February 5. One of our building goals is Assessment Capable Learners, so that is what we will be looking for during our walkthrough.

Many of you have student goals as a part of your growth plan. When we met about your growth plan, I spoke to you about three questions: Where am I now?, Where am I going?, What do I need to do to get there? Do you know what these questions mean?

"Where am I now?" is what kids need to ask when they are assessing their current skill level. They can look at assessments or assignments to get an idea of where they are in their learning.

"Where am I going?" is the growth they want to make. The best way to do this is to conference with them and set goals. Our SAPP shows that about half our teachers don't feel like we teach our kids how to determine this. Goal setting is huge. It's one of those "soft skills" like grit and agency that our students need to be successful. Be sure you do this with students. Lastly,

"What do I need to do to get there?" This is the part where they see that they are going to have to work to achieve their goal. They have to have a growth mindset.

When we walk through, we are going to want to see what you are doing to get kids to be assessment capable learners. Data walls or student data folders are great examples of how you are dong that. Be prepared to share that with us and talk about the three questions.
